This piece of work by Theo Eshetu, really captivated me. The kaleidoscopic-ness of it draws you in. The work explores ideas of various cultures ritual and dance all in the form of visual imagery.
Looking at this work has made me want to look into working with mirror, glass and projection to explore how this changes perception as well as how this can draw a viewer in.
Theo Eshetu "Anima Mundi" 2014. This video installation includes imagery from rituals and dances from various cultures, x-Rays, cathode ray tube image captures, animated statues and other visual material collected by the artist "pointing to a metaphysical cosmology" (curator's text), linking eastern and western perspectives. The video is installed in a mirror box, initially offering the viewer the illusion of a flat screen from afar. from @kochibiennale -Sheetal (@sdp80) #MoMaTravels #video #illusion
